Education

Education of supervisors

It’s important to educate the supervisors.

Understanding the disease

I’m often told not to think it is due to the disorder, but when it’s bad it really is bad. Nobody understands it.

A half-year to a year after I returned to work, pushy words and deeds began to pressure me.

When someone asks “Are you all right?” I’m at a loss as to what to say. I’m embarrassed.

People tend to treat those returning from an injury or internal disease kindly, but in the case of mental illness, they treat us like an easily broken cup or something.

They stay away from the topic of disease. Instead, I want them to better understand the disease.

Please try to understand our disease.

It’s a difficult disease. Please understand that sometimes we can’t do things even when we are eager to.

Measures taken to cope with stigma

Protest to prejudices and discrimination

It’s wrong to discriminate against the illness by calling it a “mental” one.

Its cause lies in an organ just as with high blood pressure. In this case, the brain is to blame.

Don’t think our illness is strange.

The underlying mechanisms of depression are not known.

Literally, when you feel ill, you are ill.

I don’t want to be looked at with a prejudiced eye.

Be careful about human rights.

Do not discriminate against handicapped people.

Please respect everybody’s equal right to work and be a member of society.

Don’t discriminate.

Please treat us normally.

Understand that mentally-handicapped people are vulnerable.

Need to cherish individuality

Please don’t think everybody is the same. Each person is different.

Look at each of us as different from one another.

I don’t want to be regarded as someone who cannot work just because I have a mental disorder.

Privacy protection

I was shocked when the master of the handicapped persons’ shop that I worked for disclosed my illness at a nearby café while café staff were present.

Improved treatment

Consideration for manpower

Right now there is no one to take our place at work. If someone leaves, there is no one who can fill the opening.

I cannot take a day off even if I feel ill.

If my absence means another’s added workload, this causes great stress and pressure.

Is it really difficult to have substitute staff available?

Higher wages

My hourly wages are too low.

Guaranteed leave of absence

Can you continue waiting for my return even though it may take a long time?

Consideration for the illness

Consideration for the need to see a doctor

It would help if I were allowed to go to a hospital without worry.

Request for acceptance of disabilities

I want to work without hiding my disease.

Consideration for symptoms

Please show consideration when I’m ill.

I would like a room to rest in.

Compared with healthy people, I’m vulnerable to stress and it’s difficult for me to adapt to changes. It would help to have good follow-up. If possible, I would like a holiday when I don’t feel well.
